The older, more established gentleman at your country club are up in arms about this move by Phil. Along with in-famous sprint putt he pulled off at The U.S. Open, they may even write him off and say he's a disgrace to the game. As an average golfer, I love these moves. Phil is doing what every weekend warrior does, he just happens to be a professional, make millions of dollars and be on TV getting caught. Who knows, he may be thinking about the one on one match with Tiger and wondering what he got himself into?
The truth is, after I fluff my ball or use the handy foot wedge, I politely give my partner a nod, or as Phil demonstrates below, a nice finger point, acknowledging that these actions will not incur a 2 stroke penalty and we move on knowing at some point he will do the same and that the par we recorded on our scorecards should be bogies. It's one of the few things the Golf God's sweep under the rug.

As a professional though, Mickelson has to know he can't do this, not with the Ryder Cup coming up this season. Team Captain, Jim Furyk has to wonder where Phil's head will be during one of the biggest world tournaments in golf after the 2 bone-headed moves he's made this year. You still put him on the Ryder Cup team for sure, but he needs to keep his head on straight because the Ryder Cup needs to stay in the US and we know the Ol' Lefty has some good shots in him.
